Any recommendations for fine performances, other than for nostalgic reasons. Back in the day I was fortunate to be in my colleges acapella group for a year and glee club for a couple of years, so I always pick up records (LPs) I find from any college group. Any one else collect this genre and if so, any recommendations for great music and sound? Thanks Norm

I'm probably a bit prejudiced because my sister sang in the Bowdoin College Choir when they made this record, but it is a good one and comes up on ebay from time to time.
(Edited to include the current ebay listing.)

Re sound quality - you are at the mercy of the engineers, probably somewhat inexperienced

My pick for you is from the St. Olaf choir. The connection is with F. Melius Christiansen, a noted arranger of sacred choral music. His son Olaf was the conductor and a friend of the choral director at my high school. Olaf Christiansen came to my high school and directed a choral festival - really quite impressive to hear a massed choir of about 300.

The attached link for the St. Olaf's college choir is from Ebay

If you can find it try Menotti's The Unicorn, the Gorgon and the Manticore recorded by the University of Michigan Chamber Choir (acapella with instrumental interludes). University of Michigan Recordings SM0012 1979.

The recording was nominated for a Grammy.

Fabulous music, and fun.
