The Jazz coming out of these young Cuban cats is insane! Jorge Vistel is another one.

I bought this last night (a different cd that he's on)........, posted on May 19, 2016 at 08:29:30
It has tenor/tpt. front line, which as a saxophone player appeals to me.

Thanks for hipping me to a new bunch of musicians to check out. So many smokin' jazzers from around the world nowadays!

I have been listening to that for two days! It is a nice little set of music! To really hear Vistel, check out his quartet date Ossain. Monumental trumpet playing. Another great cuban player is pianist Aruan Ortiz. Check him out on Michael Janisch's Banned In London. He is lead dates Alameda and Orbiting are also great. Here is another to check out!

Yep, know about Ortiz tho I don't own his cd's. You hip to.........., posted on May 19, 2016 at 10:05:07

You are going to find this hard to believe but Bronx Pyramid is sitting in my car. I listened to it a few weeks ago. It is pretty good with just a little latin flair. I saw Carlos Henriquez play with Wynton's group in New Haven. He is a serious bass player......I found it in the used bin at a record store (they still exist) a couple of months ago.

BTW -- do you know who the pianist was on the video you linked in your OP? I liked his playing. nt, posted on May 19, 2016 at 10:14:38

Edgar van Asselt.

Really? Sure sounds and looks like a different guy on that Vistel video., posted on May 19, 2016 at 10:52:17
On the live Vistel video in your first post the piano player has a pony tail and sounds more harmonically adventuresome. Maybe its just that he's playing a straight ahead tune on the EPK Tierra a la Vista session, but if so he got a haircut. I wouldn't have thought it was the same guy.
