I can't think of anyone but Andris Nelson and Dudamel.

Are there any other?

Check out Hrusa's Ma Vlast, or his Tchaikovsky and Bruch (with Nicola!) with the CzPO.

He's also got a new hi-rez recording coming out on Pentatone:

It seems that the Japanese have discovered him too:

Also Kryztof Urbanski in Indianapolis? Haven't heard any of his performances, but he fulfills your age specification. And BTW, it's hard to believe that Estonian snowflake (formerly babe) conductor Anu Tali is 43 already!

My wife and I recently saw Krzysztof Urbanski conduct the SF Symphony in Beethoven's Emperor Concerto (with AX) and Dvorak's 9th. First time for both of these works for my wife. He was extremely impressive in his command of the scores and the orchestra - really good concert, even if these are huge warhorses. He conducts on a fuller time basis in Trondheim and Indianapolis. Hopefully he will be back next year.

I am sure someone will mention Robin Ticciati, who is(was) a protégé of Colin Davis, and seems to be building quite a career.

Ticciati is one of those HIP-influenced dupes determined to bring Berlioz back into the 18th Century [nt] ;-), posted on January 28, 2016 at 14:42:39

Heard good thing about him but my schedule hasn't been able to accommodate to catch one of their shows.

Conducting old war horse like Emperor Concerto is tough. Because I have in my mind how the piece should be played so if the expectation isn't met, there are always some disappointment.

I have heard of Ticcati, so I need to check him out. he's got a Haydn Symphony LP out, IIRC.

I haven't heard either set, but based on the Berlioz I've heard so far, I'll stay as far away as I can from the Brahms and Schumann!

This year for sure I will start listening beyond big three 'B's. ( I am playing catch up for last 30 years of neglect of classical music )

I was just listening to Nikola's Bruch Violin Concerto again a few days ago and I was very much impressed with his sensible orchestration with building a great momentum and drama.

Interestingly, he'll be debuting at the Orchestra Hall with CSO next season and guess what! he's gonna be playing Ma Vlast! so looking forward to listening to him live.

My first concert for 2015 started with a pairing of Paul Lewis/Vasily Petrenko at the Orchestra Hall.

Petrenko opened with Elgar's 'In the South' Overture and I was pleasantly surprised how lively and energetically it was played. Even the CSO musicians seemed more upbeat and animated than usual. I throughly enjoyed Petrenko's refreshing take on this tune.

Lewis has been a *regular* at the CSO for a few years. His Beethoven Emperor Concerto is heroic, bold and confident as I expected him to be. The only draw back I felt was the orchestra was a bit soft and not as rhythmic feeling they were trailing a tad behind Lewis. A bit of a surprise really after such a lively Elgar piece.

Symphonic Dances was exciting Petrenko keeping the CSO on their toes. Perhaps it did not have the menacing weight of Berliner/Rattle set but the CSO Brass rose to the occasion adding an extra brilliance.

He did much better than his Naxos Shosty cycles CDs I listened to, tho. Curious to see how far he goes.

Looks as if she's got some repertoire that's off the beaten path too. Haven't seen too many other Lithuanian conductors either - not to mention snowflake (formerly babe) Lithuanian conductors! Maybe worth a trip down to LA!

Chris is correct.
This is just for fun to see who'll be the next *Phenomenon*

Plus now I have heard enough dead conductors so far, it's time I should start listening to some live young 'uns to see where they fit in the context. :D

at a Symphony Hall Birmingham. ( this is the orchestra on a massive hunt for the next musical director after they lost Nelsons to BSO )

He said she was almost dancing on the podium, she certainly conveyed her enthusiasm to the orchestra.

I still have not seen any female conductors yet. I keep missing but hope to hear some this year.

Actually, Chris, you might be surprised. First, let me emphatically state two things: (1) as you can guess from my moniker, I'm picky when it comes to Brahms; (2) try as I might, I cannot warm up to HIP, especially in late-Classical and early-Romantic repertoire. (My favorite Mozart conductors? Bruno Walter and George Szell.) So I approached Ticciati's Brahms SACD on Tudor with some trepidation. (Serenade No. 1, Haydn Variations, and a Hungarian Dance sampler tray) I think you would be hard pressed to find much evidence of twee HIP pretensions. The sound of the orchestra is dark and rich--very old-school. I wouldn't pretend to predict what he would do with the four symphonies, but the Tudor disc might allay some of your concerns. YMMV, of course.

At least there's cosmic justice though: Eastern European guys may look like gods at 20 but by 40, most have morphed into Boris Yeltsin. My people (English) age a bit more gracefully.

Thanks for your input. I'd give his Serenade a try..., posted on January 29, 2016 at 18:12:25
