Kind of a follow-up to our discussion as to what concerto is played when she appears in concert with various orchestras. There's a discussion on Google Groups (RMCR) about her new Ravel release (which I still haven't heard yet), and someone posted a couple of questions: Given her importance to DG on the sales and money-making side of things, does she get to call the shots as to what orchestra she appears with on her recordings, and does she also call the shots on the engineering decisions, such as the basic balance between the piano and orchestra. Are you privy to any of this?

Since this is a question about Yuja, it falls into the "babe musician" category and therefore deserves a bit of pictorial representation:

EDIT: Given the progress of this thread so far, I guess I have a third question for you too: Does Yuja mind being called a babe or a hottie? (I won't ask about "Snowflake".)

I'm kind of wondering what kind of contorted logic twists my comments into "hatred for women", but I guess that's just me. ;-)

There was really no way of telling Alan was unhappy with your babe posts from his 11 contributions to the Janine Jansen thread. If people don't speak up, you can't be blamed for soldiering on.

When women say that calling them babe is really disliked and insulting to them then you don't respect there feelings. And when you don't respect there feelings it really says you don't give a damn about them.

I was very clear about how I felt and feel.
I thought that Chris said he was going to stop. Even talked about using "snowflake". But I guess not. How about calling them Female Violinists. What is so hard about that?

The three concerto CDs she has recorded so far were kind of borne out of mutual desire between her and the three conductors to record together. The orchestras came part and parcel with each conductor. So I guess it's best to say they all chose each other.

She is not an audiophile. But she does have last say on edits. She is not hands on in the actual engineering of the recording or post production. At the recording of the Rach/Prok CD she hardly ever put the cans on to even listen. In fact I don't remember her doing that at all. Total focus was on performance. She let The producer and recording engineer do their thing. DG sends her post production works in progress to listen to and she gives them notes. She has final approval on everything.

And do tell...."WHEN" exactly have any of the classical musicians complained about Chris calling them "babe musicians?"

Actually, I rank feminist theorists at about the same level as I do ancient alien theorists on the History Channel ;-)

I just asked my wife if she would be offended if someone called her a babe, and she said, "No" - even though she's tired of so many babe musicians on recordings these days. In fact, if you check old posts on this forum (I think around three or four years ago), you'll run across a thread where an earlier offendee accused the babers of lustful fantasies regarding these snowflake musicians and that not one of us would dare post a picture of our actual wives. However, I was up to the challenge and posted a picture of my wife and me at a Turkish restaurant in London. Everybody agreed that she was indeed a babe. I mentioned this to her and she was kind of amused, even though she doesn't believe me when I tell her, even at the age of 62, she's still a babe! ;-)

As I note in my post above, I've told my own wife she's a babe.

What I want to know is why this seems to be such a hot button issue for you. I never seen you post with more emotion about any other topic. Did you possibly have a traumatic experience when some woman was called a babe and she didn't like it? IOW, I'd like to know your experience(s) on this subject too.

No issues. With all the politics going on and so much meaness, bigotry and racism being spued all over the airwaves it would be nice to have a discussion group where that doesn't happen. I am extremely passionate about music, audio equipment and table tennis so I just want this to be a fun place to come to.

In other online discussion forums there is a banned behavior called 'thread crapping.'

This is when people who have no interest in the thread topic make negative posts and ruin the enjoyment of the thread participants who enjoy discussing whatever the thread topic is. When people 'thread crap' the forum moderators issue a warning to them and if they persist they are banned from further posting.

Needless to say, if such a rule existed here, most if not all of the anti-babers would no longer be allowed to post.

Forum members who enjoy participating in 'babe musician' threads should be allowed to do so peacefully without coming under attack from the anti-babe contingent, and maybe the forum moderators could ensure that that happens.

Can't go into details. But it was taken exactly as expected.

Last night was a very fun night of Ping Pong, Foosball, food, drink and fun with friends. "Hot" was uttered by various people in our group no less than 127 times over the course of the evening. That is a rough estimate not an actual count. I was quite possibly the only person in the group who was not a classical musician or composer.

So. . . I guess that settles it, posted on November 19, 2015 at 14:23:04

Until I get a an actual request from a snowflake (formerly known as "babe") musician asking me not to use the terms, "babe" or "hottie", I'll soldier on. And if any offendee here is thinking about spoofing such a request, it will go right into the same folder where my communications with Prince Oseph go! ;-)

Well you see, my relationship with our local babe musicians is on a professional (not friendly, not social) basis (even though the professional relationship can eventually become very friendly indeed - I could tell you stories!). I don't call these girls/women "babes" to their faces (even though I don't think anything is wrong with that) for the same reason I don't call the guys I work with "boy-babes" or "hunks". It's just not correct in a professional situation. Another example might be bank tellers, who don't call their customers who walk up to the window "babes" or "hunks" either! ;-)

Moreover, as one poster (sorry, I forget who) has already stated, certain terminology is fine when one is writing, while it's more restricted when one is interacting professionally. I'm about to post on a topic which might illustrate this difference.

EDIT: I just deleted that subsequent post, having decided it really serves no useful purpose and just might get people riled up again. ;-)
