The American Composers Alliance is celebrating former MacArthur Fellow John Eaton's 80th birthday with a concert on Oct 22nd. It should be very nice.

John Zorn, Jason Moran, Steve Coleman, Vijay Iyer in recent years. I may be forgetting some.

In the classical genre, I know of composers John Eaton, Charles Wuorinen, John Harbison, soprano Dawn Upshaw, director Peter Sellers. producer Claire Chaise and violin maker Joseph Curtain I'm sure there are others.

Steve Lacy, George Lewis, Ken Vandermark, Regina Carter, Cecil Taylor, Max Roach, and I am sure there are others. Quite amazing that they didn't name any musicians this year-an aberration or a sign of the declining prestige and influence of music in American culture? I certainly can think of some deserving musicians . . .
