I'd also be very interested when the album comes out.

It's very good.

The Rhapsody in Blue with trio improvisations does shake the chessboard.

Recorded sound is very good.

are showing up on TIDAL and QOBUZ but not playing or in the case of QOBUZ, no more than 30 second samples of each track at 320kbps mp3.

I think we are seeing how the streaming services are to be used in the future. Allowing unlimited Lossless FLAC on all of the old stuff and samples to promote paid downloads on all of the new, desirable stuff. :-(

Just purchased as 24/96 from Qobuz, available 18th Sept.
With a Qobuz subscription you could stream the FULL album when available in 16/44.1.
I've already recouped my subscription with the discount on HiRes files.
Cheers

And lately, QOBUZ has begun allowed only a 30 second MP3 streaming of some of the newer issues.

And this does not change months after the issue date, if at all.

I have a couple of these in my favorites and months later, still only 30 seconds of streaming at 320kbps is available. :-(

I'd not noticed that before Ivan. I'll certainly be keeping my eyes open for that one.
Thank you for the information.

You like beer?

Wow, chocolate beer!

I don't think so.

Some combinations just aren't meant to be.

Well, it was never released officially (someone recognized the chocolate/beer affect) but segments of it are floating around on video clips. Performed in Japan in 1986, it won't change your mind on the subject but is a vast improvement on the OP's linked performance. This is mostly due to Rollins' playing, which usually will elevate whatever he's playing to the next level. Apart from that I agree with your analogy.

I would have linked something on YouTube, but the good performances of this arrangement with this trio were taken down.

Seiji Ozawa ruined the Berlin performance which just *dragged* along with horribly sloppy ensemble (I was stupid to recommend this a few years ago without actually listening to it).... There was another performance on YouTube with a "no name" conductor/orchestra, but the orchestra was just awful.

If a good performance were to surface, I will provide a link.

Must check that one out. For some reason I really like 'Jazz orchestra', the Metropole Orkest as an example. Just sounds fresh to my ears.
Chocolate beer? Well I do prefer a good Porter to an IPA. If you ever pass through Euston Station check out the Euston Taps, probably the smallest tap house you'll ever enter.

An orchestra is only a tool, posted on August 27, 2015 at 14:34:48
An orchestra can create many different types of sounds, including "jazzy" ones. I like and respect what Joe Zawinul, Max Roach, Duke Ellington, and others tried to do with orchestral sound on occasion.

I see what you are saying tho. Many cross over classical/jazz/rock come off cheezy.

I am partial to Gulda's Cello concerto. Sounds pretty dated now but I enjoy it. Admiring Schiff's mean playing.

And his later 'Concerto for myself' is one of rare classical/jazz mix that I think that works rather well.

I urge you to listen to Laura Mvula with the Metropole Orkest, Sing to the Moon.
Saw them live at Royal Albert Hall last year and was stunned by the dynamics and musical inventiveness.
Surprised at many of the 'negative' comments re. OP. But understand.

I also like odd food combinations too, basil and strawberry; Rosemary and honey; hay ice cream.

I love this album. The orchestra blended smoothly in this production.
