The City of Prague Philharmonic has just released a new recording of Bernard Herrmann's score to Brian De Palma's 'Obsession'.

It's great music and the recording is first rate - one of the best sounding soundtracks I've ever heard.

It gets better: The package has really detailed liner notes on the music and production AND it comes with a stereo cd AND a blu-ray with 5.1 and 2.0 versions of the music!

This is wonderful! If you're a fan of organ music, female chorus, harp music or Bernard Herrmann in general check this out.

Nice to see a new performance available in multi-channel hi-rez now. There's been a discussion of it over on SA-CD.net recently.

Here is a clip from the recording sessions. How much must something like this cost and how many units will they have to sell to recoup their investment?

And Chris, a few violin babes and singers in the room.

I also liked that other violinist they had the camera on for a few seconds. In addition, I liked the shots of the horn player with the newspaper up on his music stand (obscuring part of the music)!

But the way the orchestra (and the forest of microphones) is all wedged into that smallish studio doesn't fill me with confidence - however, studio manipulation these days is a lot more sophisticated than it used to be, so maybe the SQ will still be good.

BTW, here's a fun fact I ran across a few months ago: according to the latest surveys, the women in the Czech Republic are the most promiscuous in Europe!
