I posted on Sonic Highways below, a great show on HBO. This week they are in New Orleans at Preservation Hall telling the interesting story of how it started. Interviews w/Toussant, Nevilles, Dr. John among others. As always with this series great archive video and stills. A really well done series.

I have been watching it and I think they have been doing a great job at telling a story with out it being all about the Foo Fighters. We got a cryptic text from Ben Jaffe one night last summer to come down to the hall and when we got there St. Peters street was full of people we were able to get in side and see the band play their set. According to the drummer they were only supposed to play the one song that they played at the end but at the last minute Dave Grolh decided to play a whole set.
Here are some not so good pictures.

Were are just kindred spirits. I read you're a chef. I love to cook and my favorite things are Thai curries, stir fry, hummus and baba ganoush and I make my own dry rubs.

I'm surely less of a carpenter but make different things. I'll post my latest hickory table soon. I have some cherry and need to figure out a good project or a few. It's been drying 8 years.

Thanks for the pics. I guess you're living near there. I had friends that lived all around the city(Mandeville, Fat City are a few) that introduced me to the N.O. scene: my fav were four brothers: Bentley, Butler, Bainbridge and Logan! Remember Record Ron?

Cheers!

Yes I remember record Ron he was on Decatur. There are two record stores with in walking distance from my house now Euclid and the Louisiana Music Factory moved from the French Quarter to Frenchman st. I am Lebanese so I am quite familiar with hummus and baba ganoush I have some family recipes if you like. I am classically trained and worked with one of the best Italian chefs in San Francisco so my cooking leans in that direction but I branch out when I feel inspired. I love carpentry and I wish I had a garage or shop to work in, about two years we remodeled our kitchen and I couldn't find any cabinets I liked in our budget so I built my own never having made one before. It is amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it.

My wife lived in Calabria for 5 years and does very good Italian. I love Lebanese and other middle eastern foods. We have a great family that runs Lebanese Taverna in Northern Virginia.

My secrets for great hummus are use great fresh tahini that has such a short shelf life it hasn't separated and use a little more than most, make the garbanzos from dried in a good stock and a little fenugreek leaf, just a little. I am always welcome to learn more and would feel honored to have an old family recipe.
