You hear something like this, ask yourself how is it even possible *not* to have heard this before, how? ... un-f'in real!

Cannonball's playing is the more adventurous, his date, but that's to take nothing away from Miles or the others

Masters at work ...

(thank you Bob Parlocha)

Wonderful music!

As for Cannonball the more adventurous, l feel that's true on KOB too.

(BTW, some nitpick is going to show up and insist it's a Miles date that
CA got the credit due to contractual red tape... don't pay 'em no heed!)

Sometime back got the gents here to cherry pick 12-15LPs reissues from a larger list ... it was one of the suggestions! I guess I just never played the side with Autumn Leaves!

Oh my.

The principal reason that recording is so great is the rhythm section,
esp. Hank Jones, who was, imho, one of the two dozen or so greatest
jazz musicians of the 20th century, on ANY instrument.

The session was recorded before MD signed a contract with the label. He
wound up signing with Columbia instead, so the session had to be issed
under Cannonball's name, for contractual reasons. But it was definitely
MD's date.

Miles signed (his lifetime contract) with Columbia in '55, Somethin'Else was recorded in '58. I forget the details of the story, I'm sure they're all over the internets, but there's little doubt that musically it's Miles' date. Which takes nothing away from Cannonball of course, who plays brilliantly.

Yeah, the whole album is great. Funny, I was just reading about this album somewhere else on the internet.
