So for the sheer matching of the generations 88 and 28 and the different music styles - well here's the thread.

I must say music reviews rarely interest me - their duet album Cheek to Cheek has come out to mostly favourable reviews. I hope to see an uptick in this genre and of Jazz's popularity in general - if she can pull her fan base (read young) to jazz it might inspire studios to put more money to jazz - and as I noted awhile back on th egeneral forum - whether she is viewed as a good jazz singer IMO is second to getting Jazz out to a wider audience perhaps filling the gap lost by funding of music education in the school system.

I am only speculating, of course, but it is possible this move could expand her demographic base and also give her a route to expand her musical style from the teenybopper/pop genre she is in now to a more mature and satisfying music. If she has been investing the millions she must make as a pop performer, she should have the financial independance to produce music that challenges the listener and that shows her creativity as an artist; music that can satisfies the soul as well as her pocketbook.

She started with jazz - but let's face it. You can spend a career scraping by - show some leg and some crazy outfits and sing pop better than most and rake in a billion dollars - I dunno but she'd be pretty crazy not to.

Now she has the money - split from the management she was with partly due to her complaining that they were auto-tuning and turning her into a robotic sounding mess.

I don't have much issue with pop and to be blunt I liked her first album. For a first jazz effort it is solid and I hope she sticks with it. But I don't see why she can't cater to both. She's better than most pop singers - her jazz vocals are pretty solid but I agree with reviews about her overuse of vibrato and the occasional belting where restraint would be better.

Frankly, what I'd rather see from her is an attempt to WRITE some new jazz songs. Why does everyone have to always cover 50-70 year old music? You always wind up getting compared to Ella and everyone always winds up coming out on the losing end of those.

I liked Gaga when I heard this song with bare bones accompaniment.
