With her glitzy make up and vixen like outfit on the cover, she's definitely worthy of a *babe* title, but I wasn't expecting much of her playing. The YouTube excerpt really didn't help albeit her personality is soooo cuuuute! So this was such a nice surprise. Expressive from the start, the 1st movement opens with a long sustaining note like taking a deep breath. Nicola’s fiddling has a bolder, wider strokes than Jansen. It does not have a clean stops or strong strokes as Gluzman or Heifetz but she asserts herself enough to keep the tune grounded. The orchestra is urgent and has a nice presence but never overpower the soloist. The balance between the orchestra and violin is excellent as they play as a coherent whole. I am really impressed with this conductor who I have never heard before. ( Jakub HrůÅ¡a ) He keeps a rhythmic gallop maintaining a great forward momentum. The slow movement is handled delicately but never becomes overly sappy or sentimental with a bit of bitter-sweetness. In spite a slower tempo than Jansen, Adagio keeps me interested at all times. It's always a good indication if a set is working for me or not. As the wrong performance often I start wondering off. The final movement feels a bit loose but reasonably lyrical and flowing. HrůÅ¡a builds a great drama balancing out with Benedetti’s softer handling creating exciting finale. She might not have a technical polish of Gluzman ( the notes just glide off his fingers and is more effortless from my layman's perspective ) but all’n’all this set represents a youthful outlook and is very *together*.
