It seems to me Bob Parlocha is unmatched in presenting a Jazz show, and night after night at that.

Is there acknowledgement of than in the Jazz world?

Are there/were there others?

and those other (now) old farts from the glory days of jazz radio was some MIGHTY good stuff.

Haven't heard Parlocha's name in a LOOOOONG time.

There's a wee bit of the Kjaz story at the link. Parlocha was instrumental in keeping the station's
reputation golden for many, many years.

Don't know what else is out there; I haven't listened to radio in over 20 years (or since I had a show on KCSM for a while)...

Wow I hear Parlocha almost daily, it is rare for me to have the tv on but FM almost constantly. Doesn't hurt that we in the Toronto area have one of the top 24/7 Jazz channels in the world,JazzFM91 TO [CJRT], and Jazz with Bob Parlocha is the late show.

When I posted I was listening to an exceptional job, and think of the high bar he sets day to day, then think waaay over!

One thing he played was Monk - Big Band and Quartet in Concert. Oh man I never heard that before and oh my it is genius, everyone is top and so relaxed/cool.

And on and on like that, over the top even for Parlocha

That's wonderful to hear and know. KJAZ was already an institution and very important to my jazz exposure/development
for MANY years, beginning in 1976 when the restaurant job I had required an hour of prep before we opened on slow Saturday's.
The DJ (can't remember which one) played one hour of solo Art Tatum from that huge Pablo box set every Saturday AM.

What a REVELATION!

For 10 years afterward KJAZ was my main radio fix; Parlocha's Dinner Jazz a staple on the menu.

So nice to hear the seasoned pro is still spreading the word (notes?) and hipping people to the music! He's dedicated his life to doing so.

There are two of those Monk w/semi-large ensemble recordings., posted on September 16, 2014 at 08:51:53
Different personnel on each, both absolute knockout albums (have 'em on LP's). Below is a link to the other one.

Thanks.

Also good - have 2 one sealed :) but different

Learned Monk first way I improved my jazz knowledge by cheap reissue CDs at chapters, dozens of them, live, misc collections, ken burns jazz, collections, etc. various sound quality (being generous :) but great stuff. one turned out to be a bootleg of duke's 70th db concert (Manchester, England) lol, all kinds of stuff dizzy davis ... you name it

Before he retired a few years ago Leigh Kamman had a long stint on Minnesota radio. Recently MPR is replaying some of his old interviews with jazz greats - very nice.

yeah, he is syndicated to more than one station. i first him on KKJZ.org (formerly KLON from Long Beach State in Southern California) and now that i started listening to KCSM.org from the Bay Area. sometimes the very same program in bot places at the same time.

his choices are excellent and the banter as well. screw sirius radio.

Not a DJ but with a friend wrote and produced a daily feature (Jazzlines) that celebrated that day's jazz birthday
(give or take a day). They were one minute segments broadcast several times a day and read by veteran KCSM
DJ Alicia Clancy. They featured music by the artist and the three "E"s - Education, Entertainment and Enlightenment.

Clifford Brown Jr. (a truly great guy) was program director at the time and gave us the gig despite a loud truck rumbling
by on the demo tape we did in my living room and our VERY shitty reading. He and Clancy were great at nurturing us
along into a very fun and satisfying project that lasted a bit over a year.

The most gratifying aspect was to meet a few local musicians we admired (Tee Carson, Calvin Keys, Larry Vucovich)
and do a BD salute to them. The great SF bass player Vernon Alley wrote us a very nice letter he was so touched with our tribute to him.

Apparently he was NOT offended by my referring to him as a "motherplucker"!

Been a fan for many years now. His show is syndicated all over the place.
Anyone have a current e-mail address for Bob?

I think that probably was Jon Rogers on Saturday mornings. He started each show with a different version of L'il Darlin' and from there played lots of Tatum, Sinatra and Ellington. It was a great way to start the weekend. I discovered KJAZ my second day in the Bay Area and didn't move my radio dial until it went off the air. Very lucky to have KCSM now.
