I just saw the announcement of Frank Shipway's death on Music Web International. He was 79.

I know he had a lot of fans around here.

Streaming this tonight in his memory.

Great recording, by the way.

First they came for the dumb-asses
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a dumb-ass

He was a "sleeper" conductor who I think could have gone to the forefront, had times or situation been a little different.........

Still conducted far and away the best Rachmaninoff 2nd Symphony I've experienced.

I just uploaded the whole performance of Shipway's Rachmaninoff Two.... The sound is not the greatest, it was originally recorded off an FM radio to cassette deck.... But if you can listen through that, this should be an enthralling experience.

Thanks, Todd--looking forward to hearing this.

Thanks for the upload, Todd. What was the orchestra and when was it done? (nt), posted on August 15, 2014 at 18:12:48

At Blossom Music Center.

In the fall of 1980, I first heard the performance as a freshman at Case Western Reserve University, on a radio broadcast. (I remember the first half of the concert included Rossini's Semiramide Overture.) I was so floored by that performance, several months later when the station announced it would replay the performance, I borrowed a cassette deck and recorded it. This was the very recording that was digitized (with tape hiss reduction and dynamic restoration) and uploaded.

Great--thanks again! (nt), posted on August 18, 2014 at 17:25:16

Is there a way to copy/record this performance as streaming audio on to CD?
