He was a "sleeper" conductor who I think could have gone to the forefront, had times or situation been a little different......... Still conducted far and away the best Rachmaninoff 2nd Symphony I've experienced. I just uploaded the whole performance of Shipway's Rachmaninoff Two.... The sound is not the greatest, it was originally recorded off an FM radio to cassette deck....
