Just discovered Art Farmer's/Benny Golson's Jazztet by dint of a two album on one JAZZPLUS series by Mercury CD that includes "Here and Now" and "Another Git Together". Have at least one Art Farmer LP that I will have to dig out and listen to as I can't remember it for love or money.

Sound is very good and the music making excellent.

I still marvel at how many great musicians dot the Jazz landscape and how so many had amazing musicianship and often their very own sound.

In the same outing I also got a Sydney Béchet album that features a live concert recorded at the 1958 World's Fair in Brussels. Worth it if only for a cameo appearance by Sassy showing her great skills at scat. Vic Dickenson and Buck Clayton also show their stuff on this album. Trad Jazz is not necessarily my thing, but I must admit it is growing on me as it has a quality all its own and provides one with great historical perspective on the more "modern" Jazz movements.

I have to get a copy of the four other Jazztet albums starting with "Meet the Jazztet".

The albums I just got are good stuff that I would heartily recommend to anyone with an appetite for Jazz.

I have an original pressing of that one. Check out McCoy Tyner's white socks with his suit!

Every Farmer/Golson album is worth having, as are their separate recordings. , posted on July 30, 2014 at 13:03:04
