They do everything but bass and treble. Amazing.

Hasn't he been a reviewer for like two weeks in the grand scheme of things?

He also likes those awful Klipsch speakers.

I think all audio reviewers ought to publish their hearing test results. I'll most of Stereophile's reviewers, and Steve G, too- can't hear above 13,000 Hz. (Most older people can't)

So when they describe the "airy treble" in reviews, I just shake my head.

Oh, I have numerous questions about Steve Guttenberg. :)

I don't take any reviewers seriously. Any clown with a YT channel can become a "reviewer."
Reviewers are part of the marketing arm of the industry and inherently conflicted with their opinions.

I had a pair of original LRS, which I sold to purchase a pair of 1.7i. I was thoroughly thrilled with the LRS, but thought the 1.7 would be an upgrade. Well, with all the hype about the LRS+, I'm thinking I might try a pair. So I called Magnepan, got Eric, asked about lead times for the LRS+ (4 months) and explained about my reservations with my 1.7i. Eric told me to experiment with placement, and that the 1.7i was vastly superior to the LRS+ and that I'd be a fool to spend money for the LRS+.
So, I'm taking his advice. Placement fiddling it will be until I get it right. Anyone want to buy a pair of Magnarisers for their LRS/LRS+ at a very nice price??

Steve is operating a business that is quite popular and profitable. He's tactful with what he says and wants to appeal to a wide and diverse audience without alienating anyone.

Like most reviewers, he rarely says anything extremely critical or negative about a product, but will usually say that a product will appeal to certain taste. For example, he highly praises the Zu Audio DW6 and Magnepan LRS. Two very different entry level speaker experiences aimed at two very different customer preferences manufactured by two very different companies. He's the first to say that in his reviews of those products.

While not the last word on which audio products an individual will or won't like, Steve's reviews can be entertaining.

which reviewer on youtube do you actually like or whos viewpoint do you respect ?

I can understand your point that having a channel does not automatically make one an expert - but on the reverse .... just because you have one does not mean you are automatically a newbie or a hack

I can recall every speaker on his list being " the talk of the town" at some point with the exception of his latest open panel speakers - the ZU , Gallo , the Kef ...... all these speakers were big hits

I upgraded from MMGs (from 2003) to 1.7is at the end of 2021. I liked the MMGs a lot. It took almost a whole year for the 1.7i to "open up" for me. I fiddled with placement as well, but my impression is that the 1.7i needs a lot of time to break in. I did not play the speakers continuously and/or at high level and/or with any special kind of music. I am very happy with the 1.7is now and doubt that I will ever upgrade from them.

I think that's it. He mentioned speakers that stand out from the crowd. The LRS stood out not because there aren't better speakers, but because it had killer performance for the price. The LRS+ apparently takes that even farther (I still haven't heard it myself).

No one wants to acknowledge that, not audiophiles, not reviewers. Our top octaves are gone -- reviewers should bring in a kid to tell them if the highs are good!

The airy highs -- well, I can still hear something I call "air" even though my ears now have permanent mufflers on. I'm not sure what it is, but it's there and it's different than the cymbal sheen and such that we heard when we were kids (I can remember when the 15kHz limit on FM stereo made it sound like the music had a blanket over it!)

I had the LRS and Gunned MMG's at the same time, shoot out if you will.., posted on May 5, 2023 at 20:22:29

I kept the Gunned MMGs..and these were probably 2nd gen Gunned (not sure what generation he's up to these days before Magnepan dc'd them).

Not saying the LRS's were bad or inferior, the G'MMGs just sounded better (especially in the bass region) in my room, with my components.

I've since sold the GMMG's as well to help start up a business, but if I had to start over again (which I will) I will most likely get (another) pair of MG1.6's...those bad boys had a liquid soul like none other...I wish I would've bought M3lover's Gunned 1.6's when I had the chance :)
