I don't understand why a person would purchase Tympani IVa's and then sell off the external crossovers???
It's fine to bi-amp and not use them....but hang onto them for possible future re-sale value.

Dave.

I have the external crossovers for the T-IVa and MG-3.6 in storage. The components in them are really not much worth.

Maybe a vintage restorer is looking for a set of stock external crossovers for IVa's. For that person maybe they're worth much more???

An equivalent crossover could be assembled with modern components for much cheaper.......but that's a different avenue.

Dave.

I would be surprised if any owner of some T-IVas didn't know that.

Maybe I should list my T4a xo for a bit less, but I think I'll just keep them :). I run mine tri-amped now.

For anyone considering these, please note that these are NOT T-IVa crossovers, but T-IV. They are in fact different, link to schematics attached.

Yes, my fault. They are Tympani IV crossovers. A bit strange that the schematic on the crossover itself is different from the schematic in the document. The low pass section is 18 db/octave as indicated on the boxes and 12 dB/octave in the document.

I think people prefer to buy something close to stock when they buy used, which is why I do what you say myself and keep the original components. (I did recap the crossover box, which I've used occasionally for amplifier comparisons.) This is true even if the speakers have been improved -- OEM is safe. I mean, when I got my IVA's, it had cold solder joints where the previous owner had tried to improve things with mods. So he put $70 speaker connectors on his speakers and the wires weren't even soldered. Ouch.
