The few Quad 57 systems I've heard were all set up nearfield. These systems had a very different presentation than my LRS set up. Glad your enjoying them.

I actually got to hear the LRS plus and the 3.7 within 5 minutes of each other playing the same songs and was startled that I liked the LRS better - on vocals - even tho it does not have the quasi ribbon tweeter.

the sound stage also seemed un natural to me on the 3.7 ..... a little TOO large .... not living with them both in my house it could have been that my ears were just not accustomed to the big brother of the LRS

The LRS has quasi ribbon tweeters and the 3.7 has real ribbon tweeters.

if thats true then its even more startling as the LRS has a dopey Quasi ribbon tweeter and the 3.7 has a real one

right now I am listing to Lana del Rey and her vocals are so real sounding that I could reach out and give her a kiss.

I have heard - recently - speakers 10x the price with vocals that were not as real sounding...... including some VERY expensive Wilson audios

You've been listening all this time to dopey tweeters that weren't real ribbons? My goodness.
And, you've only recently decided to pass your electrons through silver?
My goodness again.

What kind of an audiophile are you?

Dave.

Imagine the sound he'd get if his LRS's were constructed out of copper instead of aluminum! I wonder if Magnepan would do that for him.

Copper LRS's?
Nah, nah, that was yesterday's wet dream. I think triode should commission some silver LRS's from Magnepan! That would be awesome!

Dave.

I'm guessing everything upstream of the speakers was different; amp, speaker cables, source, IT's, room treatments, flooring, furniture, etc.?
Or maybe you just like the LRS's more, but without comparing apples to apples...

Yeah, sure, the LRS are panel speakers so they slightly resemble some electrostats. But they are NOT electrostats and unless and until you can be happy with NOT electrostats you should spend more time listening to the difference and less time trying to convince people of untruths.

true magic happens with Maggies. Doesn't take a lot of money either My first Maggies a pair of 1.6's I ran on a single Adcom 555 and a audible illusion tube preamp ALWAYS made me late for work, Ella Fitzgerald was 'right there' in front of me, uncannily spooky. My MG20s as great as they were and did a lot of great things as well, but I never got that type of goose bump experience like I did with the 1.6s.

I think the key was the house we were renting which at the time had a HUGE living room, and of course the "source" because all recordings are not made equal!

Judging people as groups rather than individuals is problematic. We have way too much of that in our society nowadays. I suggest to slow your roll on that front and aim your insults just at me. But, your choice.

Gentelmen, Davey and trioderob, it's clear that you don't get along. Let's just avoid each other and restrict your posts to logical experience and not getting into profanity and personal attacks.

Thanks.

FYI: I deleted most of the branch of this thread and I don't want to see another.

news flash ,,,,,, in the past month I have heard 4 models of electrostatics by martin logan from entry level to flagship

I also have heard most - maybe all - the versions of quad electrostatics such as the 57 , 63 and ESL-2812

I know what they sound like and the LRS is in the ballpark of them on vocals

now the ubber expensive sound labs - i admit -its been years so cant speak of those

RE: news flash ....... , posted on April 26, 2023 at 07:15:56
You must have a very large listening room to have had all those speakers in the room so you can compare them side by side.

All I can tell you is that my Gunned SMGcs are wonderful to listen too, especially on rock and roll, but they are NOT, ultimately transparent the way my Quad ESLs or 63s are.

The veil is thin, but it is there. All you have to do is put them side by side in the room and listen.

If you like your speakers so much, why are you spending time here trying to convince others instead of listening to music?

LRS is a different beast than the Maggies you have - no comparison when it comes to vocals

that's not just my viewpoint - the folks at home can look on youtube for highly experienced reviewers take on the subject

for someone who says their speakers are so good, you seem to spend an awful lot of time trying to make people believe you rather than listening to music.

Im just thrilled you like your speakers.

You have no idea how anything sounds in my room and without that your opinion, based on some bullshit you hear on Youtube is laughable.

Have a nice day.

never said I was basing it on you tube ,,,,, heard all these speakers with my own ears ..... you sure seem to get your feelings hurt if someone disagrees with you

by the way ... I do listen to music and I can play instruments such as the sax and flute ....... you ?

also I am not saying the LRS are absolutely the same as vintage quad 57 speakers at vocals .... but they are closer much closer than conventional design speakers I have heard and other than beryllium tad compression drivers are closer than horn speakers I have heard

If you had said this at the beginning I would have no argument. I am so impressed with your qualifications I do not care to have any further discussion with you.

Have a nice day with your cheap but good speakers and your musical talent and your ego.
