Does Magnepan routinely let speakers out of the factory looking like this? See the upper right corner of the left speaker.

That use to be caused by bad handling during shipping.

They're not mine. If/when I do buy a new pair and they arrive looking like that I will refuse delivery.

the driver will NOT stick around for you to examine them so you'll have to contact Maggy later

I wouldn't worry about it. If they're damaged, they'll make good on it. Hell, I think you can send them back for any reason at all within 30 days.

Order and pickup your maggie's through and at a dealer and this will never be a problem.

meanwhile the buyer will be out over a couple hundred per panel in shipping and insurance. Not to mention the stress of the things arriving back unharmed.

That's odd. When I contacted Magnepan about ordering they told me to have the dealer ship them directly to my house for quicker delivery. After getting a look at the wrinkles in this 1.7i I will most definitely have them shipped to the dealer so they can inspect them for defects and deal with any issues with Magnepan themselves.

Not a bad idea as long as you aren't getting the big boys. It becomes kind a logistical nightmare if you don't have the proper vehicle.

No this is not normal at all and not acceptable. Used to own 1.7s and the first two pairs where shipped and arrived warped with wrinkles. Definitely order via dealer and do not accept these if they look like so. This is typically caused by mishandling and sudden air pressure change from a drop. After discussing this with my dealer, Magnepan decided to ship the third with metal strips (similar to the ones for the 3.7 ribbons) which keep the mylar compressed while shipping. Insist on the pair leaving the factory with those strips fitted prior to shipping. Did several moves in this fashion and never had an issue.

QC in the traditionally understood sense is NOT a Value Added Activity.
Instead it is a waste of time and effort and tells you that 'you did something wrong'.....

What needs to happen is training, proper specs and maybe some form of operator certification on the operation to be performed...

Quality is built in, not 'inspected' in...

Too much is never enough
