for LRS speakers only - no other models at all

what is your set-up ?

1) AMP and Pre AMP ?

2) SOURCE ?

3) MODS to Speaker ?

4) SPECIAL COMMENTS ON HOW THE SYSTEM CAME OUT

me

1) EAGLE 2 by John Iverson amp / WOO audio OTL design tube headphone amp with special factory pre amp out using high transconductance power tunes

2) REGA PLANET CD PLAYER - EARLY FIRST VERSION or as a special treat I pull out a Crown 700 reel to reel player

3) speakers are mounted in MYE stands and fuses have been swapped for audiophile quality - can not recall brand

4) System is highly dynamic and the opposite of the woffy and farty presentation underpowered Maggies are known for. MYE stands added solidity to the overall presentation - particularly dynamics and are highly recommended. System while driven by solid state amp remains surprisingly liquid in its presentation reminding me of a fully tubed setup but defiantly not syrupy or over romantic . The Crown reel to reel player adds a starling and dramatic element - being far superior to any digital source I have heard and the system becomes almost world class on a smaller scale of course than something like the big maggies , or the expensive stuff such as Magio , Revel etc ... Vocals in particular male vocals take on a quality which I have only heard surpassed by QUAD electrostatics with the older REEL to REEL tape from the 50s - 70s ....

LRS - 4A fast blow fuses non-audiophile

Source - Macbook Pro - Schiit Bifrost Multibit DAC
Pre - ARC LS3
Amp - Cary CAD 200 (SS 250/350W 8/4 ohms)input to amp rolled off with first order filter at 70Hz
Sub - Rythmic F15HP

The system is full range. On good recordings the speakers disappear. The system sounds great at all volumes.

For variety - I swap a pair of large old ProAc monitors into the same system with a different filter and sub settings to match.

The LRS are better at vocals, and small instrumental ensembles. The Monitors are the choice for rock.

Large scale classical sounds great on both - different, but great.

NAD 316beeV2, Odyssey Khartago, Axiom passive pre

Zotac mini PC, iFi USB to SPDIF, Timbre TT1 DAC

Magnarisers, KEF KC62 sub

The NAD is utterly surprising with the LRS and Wharfedale Lintons.

I just traded in my LRS for 1.7is, posted on February 10, 2022 at 08:21:31

but everything else remains the same:
PS Audio P3 power regenerator
PS Audio GCD preamp/dac (not using dac portion)
PS Audio M700 power amps
PS Audio Direct Stream Junior dac
Cambridge CXCV3 cd transport
A mix of AQ, BJC, and Anticables wire

Yes, I am a fan of PS Audio equipment and have no affiliation with them.
I just like their gear.

The LRS are a fantastic speaker, and I do mean fantastic. Kept mine for
2.5 years. The 1.7is, however, are superior in every way, as they
should be.

Lack of skill dictates economy of style. - Joey Ramone

1. Hegel H190
2. Innuos Zen Mini / Denafrips Pontus II, HRS Isolation
3. MagnaRiser stands, replaced the jumpers, got rid of the fuses.
4. Very pleased with the results using dual REL subs and a combination of Nordost and Transparent Cables.

When I had my LRS's I used my Emotiva XPA-1; high current 1kw mono blocks along with a Adcom GFP 750 preamp. Source was a logitech squeezebox stream fed into a Musical fidelity M1 DAC.

When I auditioned them at the dealer they were using a Magnum Cronus and it was unbelievable.

But if you want any decent bass out of em' in the >40db range you gotta go high current.

Just my opinion.

I actually got to A/B the Rogue amp vs my 1980s Eagle II and the EAGLE won !

I really was not expecting that - in particular I have always been a tube guy runnig 300 B set amps 30 years ago when NOBODY was talking about them.

the story being that I got in with Cary Audio basically at the ground floor when Dennis Had started the company - at that time it was Cary Audio or Audio Note silver wire ONKONKU amp if you wanted TRIODE power

why do you think my name is TRIODE rob ??????

Amp is a Parasound A21
Preamp is the preamp ortion of a Lyngdorf TDAI 2170
Sources are VPI Classic 2 table feeding an Ayre P5xe phono stage, Marantz SA-8004 SACD player and Bluesound Node2.
I also have an Audio Kinesis SWARM sub system.
The LRS are not fully broken in, HOWEVER, they sound very open, easy and "real". The four subs take all the very low end strain off the speakers. Bass is not thick or boomy but is full and clean, making the LRS sound the way they do and should. The fact I have a Lyngdorf providing RoomPerfect correction gives "goosebump" sound.

Simple these days.

Amp: Audiolab 8000a, circa 1992, refurbished

Sources: Rotel HDCD cd player; Miida dd tt, Benz cart;Asus 2008 netbook running winxp - WD ext.HD - Audioquest Dragonfly.

Cabling: Harmonic Tech throughout.

edit: ML Depth sub! Thnx for the hrz!

(The external HD, the size of a deck of cards, contains my cd collection, if I should choose to play it from that, + about 100 GD live shows. Gone are the days of the stretched out and wrong-speed due to battery drain tapes. Got to be heaven...
