Has anyone heard the 260's or the 350 on Magnepan 3.7/3.7i?
What are your thoughts?

At 350wpc - as against 260wpc for X260.8 monoblocs - surely the X350.8 would be the one to go for?

Into 4 ohms the Pass Lab amps put out twice as many watts, 520 W and 700 W respectively.

I am using an X250.5 with T-IVa's. It seems to be adequate.

I have been thinking about getting an X150.5 and biamping just to see how it sounds.

It would be interesting to hear if anyone has experience on this. Would be interesting to hear about the XA series as well I have not heard these but I would think the monos would be the choice.

If you intend to replace the external bass LP / mid HP XO with an active XO ... then I suggest it will sound pretty spectacular! :-))

Andy, there is no external crossover, it is all internal in the 3.7/3.7i.

I have a Pass DIY Biamp 6-24 kit to build for crossover duties. I already built a new passive crossover the the mid to tweeter.

Series or parallel mid to tweeter crossover? Are you willing to show us?

In my experience, you'll be blown away if you biamp the IVA's. It takes them to a new level.

I think this has to do with the fact that it has better control of the drivers. With the XO, the drivers aren't electrically damped outside of their passbands.

Save some money for subwoofers, posted on November 11, 2021 at 14:37:33
The 3.7/3.7i Magnepans do not go below 40 Hz.

They need subwoofers!

Unlike the previous 3 series Magnepans that are flat to 30 Hz in good rooms.

Not sure I can agree with you there, GS. :-((

My IIIas were good to about 35Hz - and by "good to" ... I don't mean flat ... simply hearable.

Your MG IIIas were not stock! Different frame material, and not "tuned" by Magnepan.

How much listening have you done with the "stock version" in several different rooms?

The MGIIIa has the largest bass area of any of the 3 series, hence lower bass.

Try the MGIIIA in the right size room for lowest bass.

Also, the power amp choice effects the low end too.

Some power amp-magnepan combinations go lower than others.

You said:

Agreed!

2. Try the MGIIIA in the right size room for lowest bass.

Please give me what you define as the dimensions of a "right sized room".

3. Also, the power amp choice effects the low end too.

Agreed. :-))

All I am questioning ... is your statement "flat to 30 Hz".

It is just my experience owning and using the MG IIIIa since 1987 with many amps in many rooms.

The low end response quoted by Magnepan is "Typical' in an average room.

It can go lower in certain rooms, and after the speakers age.

You never had the same experience as me. Your IIIa was a dyi, not stock, and gave different results.

Quit arguing, we have different experiences, that is all.

Either will have plenty of power I'm using 250.8 with 3.7i and the amp seldom leaves class A.
