My 1.6's appear to have about 12-14 inches of hard surface below the Mylar film. Would adding snug fitting socks made from tapestry fabric over that area affect sound signature? Purpose - 1) Protect the real socks; 2) Better blend the speakers with the room decor. The speakers already have the cream socks; 3) Potentially lower the visual height of the speakers.

So you want literal socks on your socks/speakers? :)
Shouldn't affect anything I would imagine.

As long as you don't overlap the diaphragm, you should be OK.
