Bay Area quad esl 63 question

 Howdy people.
I may be lucky enough to come into some
quad esl 63s with the catch that "one may need"
Repair. I know what that means.Always a catch!
Any recommendations for repair in Bay Area?
Not sure if I can do myself since don't know what's
Going to be wrong with them. Assuming no.
I can't seem to locate any shops or individuals
Who deal with quads.
It's the weekend- was going to email quad, but
With the brexit they may be busy! Kidding- still
Planning an email, thought I'd go forum first.
My wife's gonna kill me because our house is
So small- but I figure they would go great with
Some Mike Samra suped up mc60s!

 I don't know of a local repair person. However you might call Tone of Music in SF for some advice. I believe he is, our used to be, a quad dealer. I think quite highly of him.

If you are willing to ship the speakers, I can recommend electrostatic solutions (kentaja on the site) as a very reasonable priced and high quality rebuilder and repairer of both Quad and Stax speakers. Let me know if you want more information.

 Hi there,

Nick Gowan in Campbell is a good bet. I believe at some point he modified Quads for a living.

I can recommend Wayne Piquet for panel rebuilds as well- he is in Florida.

 Did you get the speakers?

Can't recommend a repair person in the Bay Area, as I'm near NYC, but I can tell you that souped up MC-60s are a great choice to drive the '63s.

 I picked up a pair of mechanic special quads.
Need some stator glue and bit of soldering and
Hopefully that's it. Some guy had them on his boat!
Realized too big.
Waiting on amps from Samra and hope speakers
Fixed by then

 FYI- nick Gowan no longer deals with quads.
Feels replacement panels not reliable enough
And will no longer repair them

 One other thing. I know there are varying opinions about stands, but having listened extensively to my '63s both down on the floor and up on stands--and when on the floor I had them sitting flat on their bases and also tried tilting them back. I firmly believe they need to be up on stands.

Mine came with a set of the Arcici stands, so those are the ones I've been using. I understand the issue about being careful when moving the speakers, and avoiding twisting so as not to break the frame--clearly that's an issue with the Arcici stands.

That said, the sound with the stands is so clearly an improvement that I can't imagine listening without them. On the floor, the bass is just a muddy, overblown mess. On the stands, in the two large rooms I've been fortunate enough to have the speakers in, the frequency response is just about perfect and the bass is unbelievably tight and lifelike.
