How big is your cat?

I just lean a 36" tall piece of black foam-core against mine.

3 very agile cats, who have scaled the drapes and leapt onto the speaker tops.

I'm glad that we don't have that problem! We have a miniature golden doodle that stays upstairs when my wife and I listen to music.

Fortunately my cats ignore the speakers.

They ignore me too.

An old cat long gone now liked my Vandy 2's and used their tops as hammocks and bottoms as scratching posts.

I believe this is at best CAT RESISTANT.

I've seen cats do the most god-awful stuff ON A WHIM. Like my buddies cat who Pissed on a light socket. smoke? burned fur? Terrible Smell? Than did it again the NEXT day, apparently just to be sure.

In decades of cat AND panel ownership I never ONCE had a problem. But I speak near-fluent CAT.

It is impossible to make anything fool-proof as the technological advancement of fools is unlimited. Similarly it is impossible to make anything cat-proof because cats have no regard for the rules of mankind or science. All I can see is your cat climbing the wire and carefully balancing on the top of the speakers until they tilt over.

For years I wanted another pair of Maggies but allowed our cats to "intimidate" me. Finally, last summer, I said: "ENOUGH, damn it, this is my house too!"

So I picked up a used pair of MMG's and, much to my delight and surprise, the cats, have, so far, ignored them. As a precautionary measure, I regularly mist the area around the speakers with organic lemon room freshener. They definitely do not like that!

I wonder if a pair of .7's would be safe, though. :)

Thus, 'Cat Resistant'.

About the best you can hope for. Unless kitty DECIDES to cooperate.

And the cats haven't bothered my MMGs since.

I won't claim to be an expert on feline physiology, but cats may not "appreciate" certain audio frequencies. Maybe the audio system could take care of itself. A little research could suggest what frequency cats don't like and playing that frequency when not playing music may repel them. You could run an inexpensive tone generator through the system or if your system is not always powered on you could get an inexpensive tone generator with a built-in speaker. This might work but then again........

An electrified fence might keep many fools away, but I'm not certain as to cats, because I'm strictly a dog person. :-)

Seemed that when my cat (RIP) shared my listening room with my MMGs, she stopped messing with them once I took off the socks, and ran them "naked". Of course she was getting up there in age and may had just loss her enthusiasm for climbing everything in sight. She did love laying in the sweet spot while they were playing music.

I own a set of 1.6QR's and have 1 older cat and 2 kittens. The cat (experienced with my audio obsessions) never even broke stride around them. He does not care. The kittens have climbed up the sides of the speakers a couple of times, but well timed water spraying has them rethinking it. I no longer catch them doing it. That is about all one should expect from a cat - that they pretend to do what you want, at least when you are around.

I basically decided that I could live with pulls to the fabric short term, and that they would move on to other exciting things and/or as they grow up stop it. I am willing to "re-sock" the Maggies once they have settled.

A little spritz of a lemon based scent around the base should discourage kitty without being mean.
OR damaging the speaker.

Find some of that heavy clear vinyl carpet protector. The kind with small spikes on one side so that the vinyl stays in position on top of the carpet in heavy traffic areas.
Use it as a wall around the panels base. You may be able to halve the height and make it less visible. Make sure to double wrap so it has some rigidity and use a paper dog clip to hold the end in.
This works around my Tympani IV's and yes a male cat has piss))$d on the vinyl but missed the panels! Unfortunately clean up is still an unpleasant part of the process.
