In an earlier thread I asked about the value of Acoustat Model 3 speakers with the older Mk 121 interface. Turns out the speakers I was looking at are equipped with Medallion transformers. The transformers are marked with the black logo. I understand the color of the logo on the Medallion transformer indicates something about which version, but I haven't found a post anywhere to tell me exactly what yet. If anyone knows I would appreciate it.

I did buy the speakers, they look very well cared for. I will not be able to get them home until the weekend. I am looking forward to hearing them.

I paid $500 plus CT sales tax, out the door for $531.75. If they work well I consider that money well spent, if they are no good the owners of the pawn shop I bought them at have a good reputation and they told me they would take them back.

Assuming they work okay, you did very well. Patience during setup with them WILL be rewarded. You may go a little nuts trying to get them dialed-in, but hang in there with them - there is gold at the end of that rainbow.

The non medallion interface was rectangular and is marked as MK-121-2A
The Blue medallion is marked as MK-121-B
The Red Medallion is more cube shaped is marked as MK-121-C and is the most recent.

Thanks blgtrio. I notice you also responded on DIY audio. I will post some pictures of the interfaces when I get them home, which will likely be tomorrow. My wife has the mini-van and I don't want to transport them in the back of my pickup.

I couldn't really see the color of the lettering when I looked at the interfaces in the pawn shop. I think it's probably blue, it definitely wasn't red. The lettering was on a black plastic "logo."

I will be looking to send the interfaces off to Roy ultimately. I already have an appointment to send my TNT-120 off to him in August, he told me he's booked up for the rest of the year and won't be taking 2016 appointments until September. That will give me plenty of time to get used to the speakers and get them placed.

Do you have any hints on websites with good information on placing large dipoles?

Up at the top of this forum where it says "Text to find:" type in Acoustat and you will find many threads, hopefully one of those will have some answers on placement. I find in my 22'L x 15'W x 8'H room that 4-6 feet from the rear wall and 2-3 feet from the side walls gives great results. It is really trial and error. Moving the speakers 1/2 an inch makes a difference in the way they image. Spending an hour or so positioning the speakers will be well worth the effort. You should be in for a fun weekend.

Thanks. Your room size is very similar to mine (14' x 23') so I'll try starting there!

with distance to wall is bass linearity. I experimented and measured extensively to get the optimum distance for my SL stats which ended up being about 8 feet in a 25x16 room. I would suggest starting at the 6' mark.

Good luck and enjoy. Although I now use 1+1s in another room, I have owned a range of Acoustats since 1977.

Are all these interfaces, MK-121-B, MK-121-C, Medallion inside, even without the Medallion label?

What about MK-141-C?

It appears the answer to my own question is no.

However, not all Medallions have the sticker. My Model 1 does not but they are so inside.
