I was reading a review of the 3010S2 - the lab report said it delivered 555 watts into 4 ohms.

Anyone tried these with Maggies?

The link you provided states 110 watts into 8 ohms. There is no way, if that spec is correct, that it can produce 555 watts into 4 ohms? Maybe in mono, if it can even be bridged.

This review shows a "dynamic" power rating of 555 watts into a 2 ohm load. Okay maybe.

Looks promising for an MMG or any maggie in a small room, and could work with any maggie so long as a subwoofer or two takes the bottom two octaves off its hands. I doubt it is enough to do a 20.x in a any but the smallest rooms that can accommodate it.

this was not a spec, it was a measurement from a review, posted on November 24, 2014 at 10:21:47

I have the pdf of the review, but can't find the link. It's from Hi-Fi News.

Their lab report said:

175wpc into 8 ohms
225wpc into 4 ohms
555wpc into 2 ohms

So I got the 2 and 4 ohm mixed up. Still, seems pretty good to me. They said it was 'very tolerant of difficult loads'.

It still doesn't make any sense. The amplifier de-rates (as expected) when moving from an 8 ohm to 4 ohm load, but then un-de-rates (and more than doubles its power) when moving from a 4 ohm to 2 ohm load. :)

Measurements/specifications from somebody who doesn't understand what they're doing and/or doesn't proof-read their words.

Dave.

I can take the word of the lab people at Hi-Fi News, the oldest and most respected audio magazine in the world or I can listen to 'Dave from the internet'.

Tough call.

The problem is you'd take either one's word for it. :)
Do a little research/education and then form your own opinion on whether those numbers make sense.

The number in the first post; 555w/ch. into 4 is actually into 2, and it's "dynamic power".
The other post where it was shown 175, 225, 555 should have been 175, 325, 555. Dynamic power. All ratings into <1% THD, not fabulous. Still, it does appear stable down to 2 ohms (?) which is a good sign...
225W/ch. into 4 might be OK for some.

Why doesn't somebody just try one out with a pair and report back? nt, posted on November 25, 2014 at 12:53:55

Call White Bear Lake and tell them to get on with the .7!
