Anybody using Rythmik Audio sub with their Maggies within a 100 mile radius of Joplin, Missouri that I could hear?

I have used Vandersteen subs with my 2.7 QR's, but found the bass too dry. Also, the Vandersteen setup requires that the Maggies be high pass filtered at 80Hz which I did not like. For a reference, the best (most natural) bass I have ever heard was my friends Tympanies, the Carver Amazing Platinum, and some Magnepan 20's with some Bryston 7 amps (at least 800 watts into the 4 ohm MG 20's).

Thanks
Steve

HI. I bought a Rythmik Audio F15HP two years ago and have been playing with as a supplement to a pair of customized Magnepan 3.6s and a pair of Kinergetic Subwoofer towers with 5 x 10" drivers per side. Some observations.

Rythmik is a great choice. Build quality is excellent and range of features includes almost everything you could possibly need. I don't know how they can do this for $1400. They will easily match the quality of any Maggies with the right set up.

Best result will only be obtained if you have a way to measure the results. There are various technical reasons to use a higher XO frequency so I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss 80Hz, until you explore all your options (the $300K Genesis Audio 1.2s are not crossed over at 40Hz!).

Here'a an interesting article on subs written by JL Audio you might find useful.

Hope you are able to hear these with Maggies in Joplin!

Good sealed subs and the open baffle + EQ amp (GR research) are the best solutions. Servo amps powering bass towers are excellent too. But it is hard to compete with planar bass given enough surface, sidewall reinforcement and ample power.

I get bass that is competitive with such bass masters as the Focal Nova Utopia. They go lower and have more output - and thus slam - than my Tympani, but the bass quality is on the Tympani's side for tightness and articulation/ With sidewall reinforcement, a 2kw/ch amp and bracing it is not that far behind in extension, output and slam.
