 Hi. I lost my 2 external crossover boxes for my Maggie 3.3R, and am hoping that someone has some used ones that they can either give or sell to me. (Cannot afford the DIY boxes) Thanks so much.

 There are probably 112 people thinking, do I really need to keep my x-over boxes? Most of them, including myself, will for resale value. I hope you find somebody, and wouldn't run your speakers at all until you do either that (passive external) or switch to an electronic xover (much better solution, but obviously costly). If I saw your picture right, you have a full range signal going into your tweeters, not good!

 No, not a fullrange signal to the tweeters... There is a second order high pass filter in front of them inside the panel. The mids will certainly be at risk!

 I have a pair - or at least I think I do - from a radically modded 3.3R which will never be going back to stock! I've sent you a PM.

 plschlesinger - it doesn't really matter whether these external XO boxes were made for a IIIa, 3.3 or 3.5.

 Absoloootely NP, Scottson.

However, you may be interested to know I am about to move away from active tri-amping ... to still having 6 amp channels but (taking Davey's advice! :-)) ) putting a cap in front of the ribbon to provide protection when my amp is switched on. It has never made a 'thump' when switching on but a few months ago, I happened to see the ribbon convulse when the amp came on ... so I'm thinking this can't be much good! :-))

 A capacitor won't necessarily stop that convulsing. Larger value capacitors can still allow significant deflection of the tweeter when charging/discharging on transients.
Keep your eye on it to evaluate even after the capacitor is installed.

 Really? I thought you said it would stop the DC-offset pulse (which my amp designer says occurs on start-up) from getting to the ribbon?

 It will stop steady-state DC, but it will not prevent (all) current flow when the capacitor is charging/discharging during amplifier on/off transitions. Some amplifiers are very well-behaved in this instance but others (yours?) are not.

It's probably better if you use a smaller value (vice a large one) capacitor for this purpose that provides one of the poles of your filter function.

 2 x 6.8uF caps in series with the 2ohm ribbon, to provide a 6dB slope.
