correction, "diffuser"
... ever since I learnt that modern Quad ESL treble/tweeter panels (for the lack of a better term) were dimensionally identical to the ESL-63, these HVAC diffusers that are commonplace in restaurant in-ceiling sound systems to enforce dispersion are my first impulse. Prior to that knowledge, I heard that Quad improved dispersion which would translate to a less wide panel innermost. However, that was misinformation. They improved treble panel efficiency instead. That was their way of boosting eccentric S.P.L.s in the super-treble. Peculiar solution, as it boosts the entire operating bandwidth.
In direct contrast, if I understand correctly, Quad tweakers seem to recommend the removal of front stators atop of the tweeters entirely. This is probably restricted to the modern more-efficient tweeters as this tweak must reduce them by 6dB. It seems en vogue, as it's purportedly much more revealing... as one well can imagine without the de-facto grill.
