I had the cable guy come to the house today. The drop to the carriage house (separate from the house) was never installed correctly - mainly not grounded or binded. I helped the guy figure out the re-routing of the drop so we could meet code, etc. After doing the work, he said that not having a ground was not a real issue, so I showed him the 75-300-75 balun that I had been using for the hum and he looked amazed.
He then asked "What are those?" pointing to my naked Maggies in wood frames. I briefly explained how they work and what I did with mods, biamping, etc. He says "You could do our job. This is much more complicated than anything we deal with."
As I reach retirement after 35 years in a Pediatric ED, it's nice to know I have a fall back, just in case.

I got from my cable guy....those are speakers??? (as many Maggie owners have heard), And they are made in White Bear Lake??? I have never heard of Magnepan...still a well kept secret in their home state...

If you need references on your resume, I am sure of few of us would vouch for you around here...pushing on 3000 posts...
Nice..
thanks
Mark

I've had at least three different people in the house who thought they were some sort of space heaters. Actually, they were out of the socks so you could see the transducer wiring. Not an unexpected conclusion to come to I guess. :)

Most often people think they are room dividers.

A moving guy shifting stuff into my apartment had not only never seen anything liker them before (despite claiming to be a "stereo guy") but stubbornly refused to believe that they were audio speakers - or that they could possibly generate decent sound. Seems like there's still some converts to be reached!

Well they are terribly inefficient! 2 watts of waisted energy doesn't heat a room too much though.
