Recently, I have a conversation with peoples about stacking Quad ESL 57. One says the low impedance of stacked Quad ESL 57 (0.9 ohm on high frequency) mainly because of the high capacitive, that is no good to tube amplification at all.

Assume room size and ceiling height are not an issue, how come people don't use 4 pairs in stacking? They can putting 2 for a set and wired in series, then parallel both sets, the nominal impedance should be equivalent to the ONE SINGLE pair ESL 57 that is 8 ohm and min 2 ohm on high frequency.

Is the capacitance issue really that serious even under series-parallel approach describe above??

The low impedance in the HF of the original Quad when stacked it not an issue for an amp worth its salt IMO. I have used any number of amps with stacked pairs from budget NAD type units to SOTA equipment.

If one is going to stack them 4 high running series-parallel is probably a good idea. I have never actually done this only being brave enough to go 2 high! But I have seen a number of triple stacks and one quad stack over the years. In those cases the owners were using a series-parallel configuration.

What Kent says is correct. There's only the one set of stacked 4 (Quad Quads, as it were) that I know of and they are in the U.S. and still available for sale from Wayne Picquet, I believe.

ANY tube amplifier worthy of the name will drive a stacked pair of Quads and unless you are well-heeled enough to listen in an 80 foot long room then that will exceed the limits of most domestic premises which will need room treatment to accommodate stacked pairs of Quads properly in the sonic sense.

Please email me or visit my web sote if you would like more advice on this topic.

You will need a pretty large hall for a Quad setup, i have heard the triple and its , well not recommended unless you have a large room, IMO , the double is the best compromise between all 4 arrangements and its high frequency impedance is in the range of 1.4 not .9 ...

I will have four QUAD 57s soon. The preamp/amp are QUAD 33/one 405-1. I want to stack the QUAD 57s. Any suggestions as to building a stand, hook up etc is appreciated.
Thanks
