Greetings fellow inmates,

I'm somewhat perplexed by this 'Inmates Central' forum. On the one hand I strongly endorse the move to create a 'members only' forum at AA. Restricting this forum to registered inmates will: 1) Stop anonymous trolling, and 2) Reduce some of the ignoramus posting by newbies. I think this will improve the quality of discussion here, giving more signal and much less noise than in the General Asylum.

On the other hand, I do not understand the focus of this new forum. Maybe it will serve as a kind of town hall? Better to rake over issues here with a core set of inmates? I'm all for that, since the General Asylum has become a kind of portal for unwashed audio masses.

Apart from a core community or assembly function, what else hangs this board together? Most other boards focus on specific audio technologies, and are unique in that respect. This board, however, essentially duplicates what's on General. Read at the top right corner of Inmates Central. It reads, "This is a place for general audio topics". Likewise, the text at General reads, "General audio topics". I suppose my whine here is really about having more than 20 forums, some duplicating material on others. Anybody else swamped by the proliferation of forums at AA?

I voted for mandatory registration in the General Asylum, and so did 70% of other inmates. So why did the Bored back out of a full implementation of the vote? Methinks enforced registration in the General Asylum would have kicked up one hell of a fuss. Cowards! And I was spoiling to watch the fur fly. Hrumph. Anyways, can somebody please explain to me the specific focus of this here new forum? We are gonna be like an enlightened version of the General Asylum? That makes them left in General dimwits, right? And all these forums are sucking up hours of my time to read, unfairly depriving me of sleep.

I'm not sure about the focus of "inmate central" either. I did vote for mandatory registration even though many unregistered poster do make valid contributions. I quess the popularity of inmate central will be determine by how many registered inmated make their posts here instead of in general asylum. But for sure 70% of the new posts are not being made here instead of general - maybe it's going to take some time?
Give me rhythm or give me death!

Honestly, I was at a loss for defining a focus for this forum. As it's not targeted on any specific topic, I guess it's open. We already have an off topic forum, so that doesn't work. So my thought is that this board will define it's own focus and personality.

On required registration, we did struggle on this topic. Yes, the votes were 70% in favor, but the sample was a bit small, given that we've got over 14,000 registrations. Sure, half are probably not active or rarely visit, but it's still a small sample.

In addition, there were other members that heavily supported leaving General and adding a Members Only forum. The bored has also kicked that idea around a lot in the past. So in the end, we thought that we'd give it a try. I would hope that topics here would stay active longer and attract more thoughtful responses. We'll see.

I like the freedom for the board to define itself and think it will happen. Many may be like I am, looking around to see who's here on the playground and wondering what to play.

I feel comfortable seeing familiar names and enjoy another forum to look around and post on. No action at General? Think I'll pop over to Inmates Central and see what the action is.

Should be interesting. Most of the folks here are.

I for one voted "undecided" because I felt strongly that we should keep the General Asylum as is but add a separate forum for registered users only. This might prove to be a nice haven to escape to when General gets out of hand - AND, requiring registration for Inmate Central might actually encourage some folks to register so they can participate here. Just my 2 cents.

Well my man of "action" I find that I agree with you 100%..., posted on August 31, 2002 at 21:53:44

I too, find that I am extremely interesting.
Is it bragging if it's true?
;o) (take note of the semi-colon here-we know what that means)

I was thinking of y'all re the interesting remark. Don't know about myself. That's for others to judge, but I try.

Everyone knows Mrs. P is fascinating, however.
