Looking to build myself an MC stepup device for my phono setup. Does Magnequest do anything similar to Sowter or Lundahl in the MC stepup realm? I need some guidance.

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom:

Right now we are not building any MC step up trannies.

But here's a possible hint/lead on some Peerless on the cheep...

many folks have reported good results using the 4722 Peerless trans as a MC step-up...

these show up on the bay fairly frequently... and you can generally get them for $50 or less a shot...

the bill of materials to build the unit today would be greater than the prices you can fetch them off the bay....

Thanks for asking... I always keep mental notes on what interests folks... to help us plan future product development.

Mike

Thanks for the lead on the Peerless. None available right now, but I'll keep an eye out.

In looking around for MC stepups it's interesting to note the ranges in prices. THere are many preassembled units on AGon ranging in the $100 to $500 region, which includes the Lundahl and Sowter models. But then it jumps up to multithousands of dollar units like the Audio Note. Do Audio Note make their own transformers and are they really that good?

thanks,
Tom

Dear Tom,

We make MC transformers starting at around $ 80.00 per transformer up to well over $ 3,000.00, the two cheaper units are made out of house, all the others are designed and manufactured in house to retain the tightest possible specification.

Are they good?

I am biased as you would expect, so ask people who use them.

Sincerely,
Peter Qvortrup
