The instructions for connecting the secondary windings on the S-240-A state that black should always be grounded. Is that for safety, or sonic, reasons?

Thanks, but please can you elaborate? Is the sonic effect mainly due to an altered HF load for the primary winding, or reduction of possible RF interference, or something else?

Full texts are written to answer queries such as your asking. Which is beyond the scope of which I can explicate given restraints on time and the format of a internet forum.

Suffice it to say that Peerless knew well what they were doing and how their product should be used for optimum results.

Paul Joppa has made several very good posts about plate choke designs and outputs... with discussion of points that you have raised. I have put a hot link to just one of several must read of his posts.

Click on his name and then click to see a listing of his posts... I found several good ones in the first 25 or 30 on that list.
