 Information here;

Mark III

The RAKK DAC 3 is very well regarded and this dac has delivered excellent results for me. I am offering modules as follows:

1. RAKK DAC 3 dac board - PCM1794 DAC with SRC4193 input receiver and sample rate converter. Able to have three spdif inputs (one installed, need two input transformers to enable the other two) plus i2s - all switchable.

2. LVPS power supply module (set for 230V mains but changeable I believe).

3. Power Boost module.

£90 (about $150) plus shipping at cost.

Who wants yesterday's DAC? In my experience, nobody in the world (to paraphrase Mick Jagger).

My MK III died an early death so never had a chance to try and sell it but would not have bothered based on previous experience.

One should not buy these semi-DUY products with thoughts of re-sale value!

 Well, to me, the Mark III sounds better than any I have heard (other than of course the Mark IV). So If it is sound quality that you are looking for, "yesterday's DAC" is not too shabby.

 Of course, my MK III is in no condition for re-sale but the point was that I think those of us attracted to this part of the hobby would rather get the latest version.

At the price you sold the previous incarnations of your DAC you would almost have to give it away to make a big difference in cost between old and new.

Of course, the new one took the "order of magnitude" approach to a price increase so one can probably make a better case for a used MK III. The Mk IV is a very different thing - not an easy swap like the previous iterations.

 To put numbers on it, the RAKK dac Mk IV sells for twice what the Mk III did in its time, not an "order of magnitude" more. I've always understood the expression "order of magnitude" to mean approximately 10-fold.

I know my products are expensive and I do not make excuses or apologize for that. However I will say that they are expensive for two reasons: first is the parts cost, and second is the exorbitant amount of time and expen$e in product development. This time and expense results in my being able to offer the highest quality sonics possible.

In the Mark III time frame, I was adding a small percentage of the parts cost as mark up to formulate the price. I found that this formulation was not sufficient to cover the cost of the business and in one year actually lost money in the business. In effect I was giving product away. Fortunately, I have other sources of income and do not need to rely on Raleigh Audio to feed my family.

I am in this business because I love what I am doing, however it doesn't make sense for me to subsidize the business. Therefore I have adjusted my prices in order to make a small profit. Yes, some may think it exorbitant, but I consider it a fair return for the excellent products I produce.
