I am making a headphone amplifier based round the Raven and using LL1689AM as the output transformers.
I want to put them side by side (end-on so to speak) but don't want inductive coupling to create crosstalk. Is there a "safe" distance or should I be very cautious and mount them in a V shape (right angled V)and with a small gap (1cm) between them.

Thanks

Hi Andy,

To orient the transformers for minimum crosstalk place one at right angles to the other. Distance obviously helps, too.

However, at the signal levels required by headphones I would guess there would be little problem even if they were side-by-side.

A flattened piece of a steel soup can placed between would ensure no discernable crosstalk.

Super, thanks very much. I will be able to place them over 2 inches apart so that should be just fine.

I am curious, I was under the impression that magnetic fields can not be blocked but only redirected. So that in order for the steel soup can to shield the transformer it would have to wrap around the transformer and be attached to ground. Is this not the case? And I am very much asking, not debating one side over the other.

Great article on this : https://www.kjmagnetics.com/blog.asp?p=shielding-materials

I am interested in any examples of where you shielded something successfully and how it was done.
