Fletcher Henderson, Henderson Rag.
I'm arranging it for Clarinet Quartet, and I can tell you,
these guys can PLAY!
Henderson also invented the Lawrence Welk Sound, Woodwinds playing Staccatto Figures in a a semi-ricky-tic fashion.
Sounds Hip when he does it, and even pre-dates Thad Jones by a Lot!
God help anyone subbing in the Sax/Clarinet Section...

always nice to hear from someone with musical training

Other mods would no doubt ban you for posting a link that contained so many clarinets.

I have a cd of Duke's band from the '20's. The writing/playing is fantastic. Excellent chops didn't start with bebop, that's for sure.

I saw them in a late 20's Movie, NO Music Stands.
And Harry Carney looked like, and could have been a teenager!

Gerry Mulligan wrote a Tune called something like:
Sonata for 2 Clarinets and Big Band.
The Joke was that there aren't ANY Clarinets in it.
Sensible.

all around great guy, gifted me this assemblage he made in 2009.

It's entitled "Wrong Note!".*

Good use of a clarinet piece, or what?

*irony in the placement in front of Mr. Ellington, who did say there are no wrong notes!!!

If that doesn't work, I guess pull out the Mouthpiece and Neck as far as you can.
