Just 54 years old from a heart attack. He was the bass player on Black Codes From the Underground, one of the more important albums in my early development. RIP.

This is shocking and sad news. I last heard/saw him at Lincoln Center's Summer Festival tribute to Ornette Coleman in 2017. The movie NAKED LUNCH was shown with a live orchestra conducted by soundtrack composer Howard Shore, and Ornette's trio parts played by Denardo Coleman, Charnett Moffet, Ravi Coltrane, and Henry Threadgill. They sounded great, and later I got to meet Charnett who was very kind and humble. Far too many musicians dying far too young these past two years.

Cat had a lot to offer and contribute elsewhere too.

For that, thank you.

RIP.
