I got to play a few gigs in SF and Oakland with Joe's
SF Big Band.
He was in his later years, his sound had mellowed, and he would pull ideas right out of the air!
Always surprising me with where he went in his solos.
He had his own Vintage Mic, and his tone was tailored for Mic/Pa systems in Jazz Clubs.
Others sounded very aggressive over the PA System, Joe sounded GREAT!
I gather he had recovered his Stolen MK VI Tenor, from years before.
He was very happy about that!

I have been listening to a lot of 1990's Joe these past couple of weeks. Really good during his twilight years and he died young. Love him.

Yes, his twilight years should have come much later!

Not too shabby before his twilight years. Truly unique. nt, posted on February 5, 2022 at 22:06:49
