I saw her a couple-few years ago at the Canadian Embassy in DC. Striking performer, great voice, interest material. I like her first two albums much better than the latest. They are more unique.

Ciao,

Guys, please stick to posting about jazz. I know its been slow here and I like this, but...., posted on December 5, 2021 at 15:30:09
it ain't jazz. I like a number of r&b/salsa/Brazilian/African/flamingo vocalists too, but I don't post their music here. Nobody posts about Stravinsky on Rock, nor Archie Shepp on Classical. Lets keep this joint about jazz. There sure as shit ain't a lack of jazz artists/music to post about.

This one is up for debate:

The Websters' definition seems to apply.

Tidal puts her in the vocal jazz genre. Tidal is not the source of truth, but it helps.

I have posted outright non-jazz here before and have since been careful based on the feedback here.

I wouldn't sweat it.

Though WTF James Taylor* is on there as Jazz IS something to sweat.

Unless it's the JTQ.

Some of Lou Donaldson's work is more like rhythm and blues than jazz. nt, posted on December 6, 2021 at 20:59:57

Part of the beauty of jazz is the lack of creative constraints. nt, posted on December 7, 2021 at 07:53:11

You can almost dance to the Donaldson LPs, but your body would be extremely contorted if you tried to dance to an Eric Dolphy LP.
