Taking a break from packing up over 2,000 lp's/600 cd's. , posted on May 17, 2020 at 11:50:51
We'll have to come back a few times to load up some smaller stuff in the semi-suv I rented (including my system) but the main move w/truck is on Tuesday. Its only about a 20 min. drive away.

We had to move 'cause its a condo, the owner wants to sell and we don't wanna buy it. New place is a rental for 2 years. If the virus ever ends we'll figure out where we wanna spend the rest of our lives and buy a place. I only got one more move in me. Next time I'll likely hire a company to do everything, including packing. I'm too old for this shit.

Yeesh. I'm not sure I've even got one left in me...and I am DEFINITELY using movers next time if there ever is one. About 4,000 LP's here, many acquired since moving to this location. I don't even want to think about the process. I hope yours goes smoothly. Stay well.

I need to listen to more of Cables' playing. I never noticed until hearing this just how much Jason Moran sounds like George. Some very striking resemblances here.

George accompanied Art Pepper on a few late period Galaxy sessions. They seemed to get on well.

Yes. And he played with Frank Morgan. Just under appreciated.

One of my favorite Cables CDs is his solo piano at Maybeck recital hall on Concord. I have nearly two dozen disc for this series from many a fine jazz pianist, and his is among the tops.

Just listened to it last week. My first Maybeck was the Stanley Cowell. I have a lot of them. I am surprised that there was never a box set.

There have been 42 solo recital CDs at Maybeck and 10 duos. That would be quiet a box set.

I know! The John Campbell is excellent. There are so many good sessions. I may have 18-20 of them.
