Having owned and enjoyed several of their box sets over the years, I'd appreciate some opinions. My own favorites are The Complete Anita O'Day Verve/Clef , which I usually revisit once a month and the Jack Teagarden Complete Roulette which gets a play at least once a year.

Mosaics which still available from the company at this time would be nice, but I'd appreciate seeing comments on any of the other sets from the vast library of jazz re-issues from this great source.

I have about 20, mostly on vinyl. Miles: w/Coltrane, Blackhawk, Columbia, Art Peppers, Curtis Fuller. Listening to Max Roach now. I haven't been disappointed by any of them, although the Paul Chambers sets get kind of repetitious with the repeated takes. I wonder why the pressers can't change some of the song orders!!

If I still had the cash I'd still be purchasing them. Times and priorities have changed.

I would HIGHLY recommend the Miles Columbia set. It's my fave.

I like the Johnny Hodges (the 2nd one), the Lionel Hampton small
groups, and the Chu Berry set as particular favorites. I also have
several of the Basie boxes which I just love. I do not like to think
about the ones I did not buy for whatever reason.

I believe Princeton Record Exchange in Princeton NJ has a good selection
of used Mosiac sets, as well as a great selection of just about everything
else too. http://www.prex.com/

I believe only on CD and no longer available, I really like The Complete Bee Hive Sessions.

I have about 20 Mosaic sets, mostly LPs, and they all have merit, but the one that I listen to the most is #107 "Complete Blue Note Forties Recordings of Ike Quebec and John Hardee." The irony is that I received this set by mistake. I ordered another set and this one came instead.

There is a moving story in the Mosaic booklet about John Hardee. His career in NYC never really took off so Hardee and his wife loaded all of their belongings in their car and drove to Texas where he became a high school band leader. When the Mosaic producer telephoned Hardee to gather background information for the booklet, Hardee was genuinely touched that anyone even knew about his recordings much less wanted to re-release them.

I for one really enjoy his tenor playing, and I doubt I would even know about John Hardee had it not been for Mosaic's mistake in sending me the wrong box.

Wow, I'd never even heard of Hardee. , posted on September 9, 2019 at 11:21:55
Here's a link if anybody wants to check his music out. Nice tenor player.

Thanks for posting the link. Listening to two of the tracks reminded me I should have mentioned the important role of Tiny Grimes. Tiny plays his 4-string guitar on most if not all of the Hardee cuts on the Mosaic set, and he also plays on a number of the Ike Quebec tracks. Tiny Grimes is also one of my favorite players.
