I have been tasked with coming up with suggestions for this type of mood for a neophyte jazz fan. So any suggestions for something somewhat similar, extraneous from Chet Baker and Bill Evans would be appreciated. I have lots of lyrical stuff but not much that presents itself is such a way as this recording by the late, great Gerry Mulligan.

Not Mulligan or Evans, but this one might fit the bill., posted on January 24, 2019 at 11:32:46
Really nice and mellow Paul Desmond recording with beautiful arrangements by Bob Prince that anyone could enjoy. See link.

The track you posted is a bossa nova so you might also consider "Jazz Samba" by Stan Getz/Charlie Byrd, "Getz/Gilberto", "Stan Getz With Guest Artist Laurindo Almeida". They're all kinda mellow bossa nova albums with great playing and none require being a serious jazz fan to enjoy.

BTW - Mulligan's *older* big band recordings (Gerry Mulligan Concert Jazz Band) are fantastic. His bands were full of great players, the tunes/arrangements were killer and the recording sound on all of 'em is superb. There is no Bill Evans trio album that isn't worth recommending.

Thanks Rick. I just listened to Desmond Blue which I'm oddly enough not familiar with. Great music and suggestion. I'll be listening to more of it. I am very familiar with Baker and Evans and he is and will continue to get more of them as suggested listening.

This is easy on the ears. Nice record. Very nice. Also look for Stan Getz Anniversary or Serenity.
