there used to be jazz that was smooth, and then the producers said: "make more LIKE THAT". so they all homogenized, even the great Bob James whose 1962 output was FANTASTICLY inventive.

the same happened to Larry Carlton, Dave Sanborn, and any number of players that were capable of stimulating music.

so i named it SMOOVE JAZZ to differentiate it from jazz that is smooth.

michael franks got sucked into it but then got back to being himself. his older records is where you hear a stimulating dave sanborn to good effect.
