Maybe it contributed to his losing his Lip later.
Coke can completely Numb the Upper Lip.

I never knew that but it makes sense now..... A buddy watched Freddie play and he burst his lip and kept playing with blood dripping all over a white shirt....my buddy said he was on fire......

...of exactly that. I would have thought with a numb lip he'd not be able to control his embouchure, but apparently not.
