It is fascinating to see how much the nano world has progressed in a few short years. The Nano-C website sells everything from nano tubes to bucky balls and even offers nano metallic powders: like silver and gold. For the DIY'er who wants to play with leading edge technology, these products are available in small amounts (not exactly cheap since they are priced by the gram), but the opportunities are fascinating.

Stu

PS they even sell quantum dots.

Pretty interesting site - though I would not invest too much money into the Quantum Dots - they appear to be simply alloys with small particle size, and not band-gap generators - such as the first commercially available Quantum Dots(r)...

They appear to have one item in the catalog that is quantum dots. Of course, the shell of quantum dots is an alloy.

From what little info available, it does not appear that these particles - that they are selling - will be flourescent, that is take in light and output a narrow emission of light -
Yes, they are an alloy - both at the core (CdSe), and in the shell (ZnS), and if you want to make them stable - there is some doping that should happen to blend the matrices more completely ...
