Changing the aluminium in my tweeter and experimenting brand new, "fresh from the box" sound (which is settling down and aligning to the "old" tweeter as days go by) made me think of something..,
My midrange drivers are old and cheerful Atlas / klipsch K55V with phenolic diaphragms.
They have maybe more than 40 years of use, crossed over at 400hz / 6dB.
They sound fine, but I never compared them with new diaphragms.
Doesn't the phenolic diaphragm dry up and changes after so many years?
Is there any improvement one could expect by installing brand new factory diaphragms?

I would just do a good visual inspection and measure the Fs to
make sure it's within specs. If that checks out, I'd use them.

Signal generator or freq. sweep online could also reveal any
V.C. rubbing.

what should the impedance sweep without a horn look like for a healthy K55V> (-wish the diaphragms were more affordable)

I only have older units, so have no idea on a newer one.
