Changing the aluminium in my tweeter and experimenting brand new, "fresh from the box" sound (which is settling down and aligning to the "old" tweeter as days go by) made me think of something.., My midrange drivers are old and cheerful Atlas / klipsch K55V with phenolic diaphragms. They have maybe more than 40 years of use, crossed over at 400hz / 6dB. They sound fine, but I never compared them with new diaphragms. Doesn't the phenolic diaphragm dry up and changes after so many years? Is there any improvement one could expect by installing brand new factory diaphragms? |
