That's a classic case of alignment mis-identification. Tapering a port tapered doesn't make it a horn, it just makes it a tapered port. It will work somewhat better than a straight port, but only in the same fashion as does a modern flared port. Horn loading doesn't enter into the equation. By the same token the corner placement has the same effect on this alignment as does 1/8 space loading on any alignment. If Abe had a computer and HornResp he'd have drawn a far different conclusion as to what he had there.
