Does anyone happen to know if they fit? The magnet is much larger than the DX4, of course.

(T/S params are similar so I think they should sound quite good if they do. The best of both world, with AlNiCo in front-loading B's?)

My measurements say they DO.

If anyone has experience, please chime in.

Hay Paul,

I'm sure that you must be aware of the rather dramatic sound change that will derive from going from the DX4's to PM5's in in this Back/Front horn cabinet. I have not performed this kind of driver comparison specifically with Beauhorns, but, I have done this in many back horns. I generally "A LOT" prefer the sound of the PM5a (the PM5a is my second favorite Lowther driver, just behind the PM2MKII's) to the DX4. Just be prepared for a complete character change when switching from DX4's to PM5a's.

Hi Lance,

Can you please elaborate? What sort of sound change should I expect? On paper they are similar. I expect greater nuance from the AlNiCo; I hope you aren't implying some kind of large frequency response variations. :)

Please be aware that the Beauhorns use the very large "mushroom" phase plugs also.

The answer to my question is NO, they do not fit.

Not unless you cut a hole in the foam behind the driver for the giant AlNiCo magnet to fit, anyway. Which I did.

They sound great. I mean, the DX4's were no slouches by any means, but I do think I hear some AlNiCo somethin'.

(I also want to say that Lowther lost a heck of an ambassador in Jon ver Halen. You wouldn't know they're not paying him anymore given how free he is with his advice.)

Now, how long do new Lowthers take to break in? Some say two trillion hours and some say three trillion.
