~on axis and about 30 off horizontal axis, in-room - Gradient Acoustics AX08 speaker(~$61 shipped from MCM - if one can get a 10% off coupon whta works)

its in a fake "Druid pipe" - although there's rise, I don't think I'd want much BSC as the treble power response of most fullrange drops fast off axis - with no filter, its louder and clearer than my Beta10cx/ASD1001

1/24 octave smoothing

impedance with zero play on the driver

I wasn't aware of these - sort of a lower-priced cousin to, if not a clone of, the mid-priced TangBand and "Dayton" branded 8" twincones sold by PartsExpress.

I do wonder if that "chop" in the higher frequency response is responsible for/typical of the "tizzy" sound oft attributed to twincone FRs? Your thoughts on that?

(PS I am not negatively disposed towards twincones per se -- let me just be really clear about that!)

(PPS It's interesting that the photo of a driver on the Gradient site looks a bit different than the one on MCM's site; the former has a cosmetic trim ring around the magnet vs. some sort of textured finish on the MCM image, as shown above)

all the best,
mrh

not sure about the stepped response - its a nicely made driver with a small doped cloth surround, U-beam spoke cast frame -

a diy foam donut /ring inserted betwixt main cone (by friction only) and whizzer cone has proven effective in dealing with whizzer oddities.
Try it?
