So I'm building a network for this Altec horn/driver, and need
to know where to cross to the tweeter. 803b is a large 300 hz.
multicell. I'm doing 500Hz to the 803b.

One option is to abide by the "decade rule".

Cross to your tweeter of choice at 5k Hz.

I crossover around 8k to my t900a or I just use without tweeter

Kloss, this is a bit off topic for the thread, but I have often wondered how classic horns such as the old Altecs compare to newer horns such as the Oris horns or Azuras. I am old enough that I heard many of the Altecs in stereo stores and night clubs but instead of pursuing those I have settled on newer offerings, specifically the Oris 150s with Fitzmaurice HT Tubas doing bass and with Fostex t900a bullet tweeters on top.

I hope I am not putting on the spot too much with this question, but if you retired from speaker designing and building what would you choose as your system to use for enjoying music? If you feel the question is an unreasonable one just don't bother to respond.

I dream of an America where a chicken can cross the road without having it's motives questioned.

Altec designed them to roll off above 8k (the upper limit of the optical soundtracks used at the time). There was nothing but noise above that, so the roll off helped to suppress noise.

I do enjoy Altecs and I do have 288c in one system but over all I prefer TAD in a radial or a RCA in a big multicell. http://horns-diy.pl/ makes great horns I've enjoyed a few. I do not use the oris or azuras today since it was much to hard to integrate with tweeters and bass systems. I use t500amk2 or t900a in most of my systems and have with the altecs but a 288c will sound fine without tweeters. Still designing modern restoring vintage re-purposing etc. So no end all system for me at this time. If I had to pick one would be my RCA Shearers with 15 cell- 9448 and 515b or EV SP15 woofers t500amk2. Or TAD 4001, T500AMK2, Iwata horn, community extended leviathans for bass with 4 515b this is pretty much what Im running today. I did enjoy the Altec 803 288c 515b with Lansing 18w5 w bins. But I stored it for now.

I had a hunch it would be 5K, so that would be a good place to start.

Thanks for inputs....
